Mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 1 when Mission Viejo joins thousands of communities nationwide for the annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.

In celebration of this safe City, Mission Viejo Police Services is teaming up with Target to host an interactive community safety fair from 5-8 p.m. at 25601 Jeronimo Road.

National Night Out celebrates our safe community while fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Members of the professional Orange County Soccer Club will be on hand Monday, July 24 for opening day of the 2017 Soccer For Hope Camp in Mission Viejo.

Designed to raise funds for childhood cancer research, the camp is from 9 a.m. to noon July 24-28 at the World Cup Soccer Field, 27301 La Paz Road. Boys and girls ages 7-13 can participate, and teens 14-19 are encouraged to volunteer and earn community-service hours.

Be aware of full and partial freeway closures on tap this week. Southbound I-5 is scheduled to close at night July 19, 20 & 21 between Camino Capistrano and PCH/Camino Las Ramblas.

The following week, northbound I-5 is set to close at night July 26, 27 & 28 between Avenida Pico and PCH/Camino Las Ramblas.

Crews will replace outdated overhead signs that span the freeway.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane … wait, no it’s Iron Man in a jetpack hovering over Mission Viejo? No joke. That will be the scene this Saturday when a jetpack pilot flies nearly 200 feet above Oso Viejo Park as part of a spectacular stunt during Symphony in the Cities/Prelude in the Park event.

Get ready for a free Concert on the Green this Friday featuring one of the area's most popular bands – Family Style.

The fun takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 21 at Oso Viejo Park, 24932 Veterans Way. With a dynamic stage show and music from Stevie Wonder, Prince, Marvin Gaye and James Brown plus a healthy dose of David Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Van Morrison, Family Style will get you on your feet for a funky good time.

The Mission Viejo Girls’ Softball 14u "Illusion" team has made it through district championships; battled in 110-degree heat to advance through state championships; and is now heading to Northern California to compete for a national title beginning July 31.

The team’s road to the nationals was paved with success and victories at prestigious competitions.  The girls play competitive fast-pitch softball with dedication, sportsmanship and a team spirit unmatched by others.

Foodies will rejoice with the chance to savor something new during the 1st Annual Mission Viejo Restaurant Week August 21-27.

If you want to see caped crusaders like Batman and supervillains duel it out like never before, don’t miss this year’s Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event on Saturday, July 22.

Boasting a “superhero” theme, this awesome event is from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Oso Viejo Community Park on the Village Green and neighboring community center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The City of Mission Viejo is set to begin the next phase of the Marguerite Parkway median island renovations – a project that will save the city thousands of gallons of water per year.

The water-conservation project begins the week of July 24 on Marguerite Parkway between Alarcon and Santa Margarita Parkway.
