Black cats are not spooky, they're purrfectly enchanting!

Did you know black cats are the most overlooked cat at animal shelters and take longer to be adopted than more brightly colored felines?  Not sure why but it could be due to an old superstition that black cats are bad luck or cursed in some way. Regardless, black cats are just as sweet and deserving of love as any feline.

Why should you adopt a black cat?

Some cultures consider them good luck!  If you are having a tough time getting over past superstitions regarding black cats, know that many cultures associate them with good luck, not bad.  In Britain, women with black cats are said to be lucky in love – and captains once kept black cats aboard ships to keep their sailors safe while at sea. A black cat crossing your path is also a sign of good luck in Asia. Instead of focusing on harmful superstitions, believe in positivity.

Adopting a black cat is the easiest (and safest) way to bring the majesty and grace of a black panther to your home. Often lovingly referred to as “house panthers,” black cats have an exotic air that allows you to experience the wild side without the need for special permits.  Black cats were once regarded as royalty.

Their coats are beautiful! Coats include the deep auburn-shaded black; blue black; black with tiny white highlights; sleek black; fluffy black; bunny-soft fur; and black with yellow, green and grey eyes.

The best reason to adopt a black cat? You will be saving a life. Black cats spend more time in shelters than other felines and are more likely to be overlooked. Opening your home and heart to a black cat gives a loving animal a second chance at a great life.  To learn more about the black cats or any cats we have available for adoption, visit MVAS.
