Do you remember the story of the Caltrans employees that found a cat on the I-5 freeway?
In December, a little orange cat was lucky enough to be rescued off of the I-5 Freeway by Caltrans workers. Suspecting that she was deceased, the workers approached the kitty to dispose of her but were pleasantly surprised that she was alive! Named Callie in honor of her rescuers, she required extensive veterinary care, but Callie survived her ordeal.
One of the veterinary technicians who cared for her at the emergency hospital volunteered to foster and give her continued care for her wounded feet. After months of care and recuperation, the veterinary technician and her family decided they could not part with the sweet cat, so they officially adopted her into their family.
"We love her so much, and her new name is Mabel," the technician wrote in a letter. "Mable is a character from a children's show that my kids and I loved watching when they were younger."
Congratulations to this family and to Mabel! Like everyone else, we cherish a story with a happy ending.
