MVAS lends a helping hand to Maui Humane

Almost  two months after the devastating wildfire that swept through Lahaina on August 8, Maui Humane needed additional support for its vital animal welfare services. Mission Viejo Animal Services answered that call and deployed Animal Control Officer David Lim to the area in October.  Officer Lim engaged in a variety of routine service calls, aiming to provide relief and support to the fire-impacted community. Some of the essential tasks included feeding and watering livestock on partially burned properties, rescuing chicks from storm drains, and responding to calls regarding loose dogs and cat sin the area. Officer Lim also responded to calls from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA conducted property inspections and reports deceased animals that needed to be collected. Additionally, Officer Lim patrolled the fire-affected areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals were a top priority.   At present, Maui Humane is providing care to more than 600 animals, including pets belonging to residents who have lost their homes. All recovery efforts were carried out with the utmost respect and sensitivity to the profound loss experienced by the Lahaina community.

Mission Viejo Animal Services recognized the importance of aiding Maui Humane during this time of need. The collaboration was a testament to the strong sense of community and solidarity in times of crisis, and providing additional support for the hardworking employees of Maui Humane who had been tirelessly serving the community throughout the disaster. Maui Humane covered all costs to enable Mission Viejo Animal Services to offer assistance.

This partnership between animal services organizations exemplifies the importance of collective efforts in supporting and rebuilding communities in the aftermath of a disaster.
