MVAS Youth Explorers visit the Back Bay Science Center
The Mission Viejo Animal Services Youth Explorers program recently assisted the California Department of Fish and Wildlife at the Back Bay Science Center in Newport Beach with its marine life inventory. Our Explorers learned about the importance of estuarine ecology to preserve the many endangered species that live in our local areas.
The Explorers were able to identify and measure the many different species they observed, sample local water quality, and remove invasive species all in an effort to monitor the health of the estuary. While Mission Viejo may not possess an estuary, we are all a part of a watershed, and the understanding our Explorers gained regarding the impact of our daily choices on the environment is important. This experience will help play a pivotal role informing the future careers of these young individuals. For more information on the Youth Explorers program, please visit cmvas.org or call 949-470-3045.
