Volunteer Phil Glaser Remembered

Phil Glaser, our dedicated volunteer of 22 years passed away last month. Phil was an avid animal lover and a very strong supporter of the Center. In addition to the 2700 hours of volunteer service, Phil also served on the DAWG board for all those years. A tree was planted at the Center in his honor in 2008 for his 12 years of volunteer service. Sharon Cody, president of DAWG, remembers him as a gentle soul, and says Phil was an inspiration to all of the board members. 

Sharon shared a sweet story about Phil and his dog Karma on his obituary page:

We all knew that Karma, his constant companion, a lab mix with a gentle, sweet personality, held a special place in his heart. 

Phil and Karma had a morning ritual. They would walk to the bagel shop and he would get a bagel for himself and one for Karma. She would carry a little sack in her mouth home from the shop each morning. Neighbors, friends and others would watch for Phil and Karma on their daily walk home. They were devoted to each other. I can remember times when someone visiting the shelter would see Phil, and remark that they loved and looked forward to seeing the pair, walking home from the bagel shop.

Phil’s love and dedication for all animals was truly inspiring, and he will be missed by the many lives he has touched.

Phil was very active in animal rights and volunteered at animal shelters for many years. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of the following charities: Animal Acres, FARM, W.O.L.F. or ISPMB (mustangs and burros).
