Our January Featured Pet
Meet our sweet senior chihuahua Macaroni. This 9-year-old dog may have a frosted face, but she is still full of life and love. Macaroni was adopted from Mission Viejo Animal Services in September of 2022 and was recently returned to us due to the health problems of the owner.
Here are some reasons why you should consider adopting an older dog like Macaroni.
Senior dogs tend to have a calmer temperament - senior dogs tend to have a calmer temperament and don’t feel the need to explore everything or chew on furniture, carpets, and shoes, which translates to less destruction. Many senior dogs like Macaroni still have lots of energy but it not overwhelming.
Caring for an older dog can be easier and less demanding - Caring for dogs requires effort, time, and patience. Potty training, feeding, cleaning, and walking are easier and less demanding with an older dog. There is no need for hyper-vigilance during the teething and housebreaking stages, which come with caring for puppies and younger dogs. Senior dogs are simply easier to acclimate into your home than pups.
Bonding with an elderly dog is almost instant - Because senior dogs have experienced socialization and bonding with humans before, they tend to easily bond with whoever adopts them. Older dogs can almost instantly bond with you, as they see you as a lifesaver and are eager to bond and settle into their new loving home. They are highly appreciative of the care and affection they receive and usually show it with frequent cuddles, licks, and closeness.
Macaroni promises to give you a lifetime of joy if you give her a chance. Since she is considered a senior, she is part of our mature pet discount.
