July 2020 Rescue Round-Up
On January 15, the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center rescued a black lab named Spencer through our "A Mission for Home Rescue" program. Spencer came from an over-populated shelter in LA where dogs can get sick and be euthanized at any time. Through this program, we help dogs like Spencer by transferring them to our center where they will be adopted. With the onset of COVID-19, all our dogs residing in the center were placed into foster homes, and Spencer was lucky enough to be fostered by Mission Viejo Councilwoman Wendy Bucknum! She opened her heart and home to Spencer and cared for him until we received an adoption inquiry by his forever family. This local family has had large dogs in the past, and something about Spencer's photo spoke to them, especially to their son Kyle.
Kyle is a musician who plays percussion for the Mission Viejo High School band as well as a smaller band. Music is his passion, but with the lockdown, he was unable to play with his bandmates and needed something else to focus on. That is when they adopted Spencer, who has been a positive distraction for Kyle as well as the entire family. Spencer listens intently while Kyle practices on the drums and piano; they hang out together, play and have a great friendship. Kyle is off to University of Maryland soon where he will major in music. We are sure Kyle and Spencer will miss each other, but Kyle's mom assures us that Spencer will be waiting when Kyle returns home.
