Football fans unite! Head to the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo station where you can catch the train to the L.A. Coliseum to enjoy a series of LA Rams’ games.  Here’s the scoop:

Richard Smith, dubbed one of the best “fingerstyle” guitarists around, will perform a special concert on Saturday, September 9.

The Lord of the Strings’ presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.

Mark your calendar for two fabulous family nights this fall featuring movies in the park and tons of fun.

First up is the screening of “The Secret Life of Pets” on Saturday, September 23 at Melinda Park, 28951 Melinda Road.

Then on Saturday, October 7, “The Boss Baby” will play at Napoli Park located at 27682 Napoli Way.

The City Council on August 22 approved a resolution supporting the Transportation Corridor Agency’s efforts in identifying a balanced solution to relieve traffic in south Orange County.

The City of Mission Viejo has long believed it’s essential to seek viable solutions – such as a North-South corridor – to improve mobility and quality of life in the region.

The City continues to enjoy the fruit of local scouts’ labor that has benefitted our environment and Mission Viejo’s landscape.

Last month, Joseph Gourgy of Boy Scout Troop 659 and Carson Galovan of Troop 768 rallied several volunteers for similar planting efforts on Muirlands Boulevard along the landscape slope area between La Paz Road and Alicia Parkway. The scouts each planted several hundred drought-tolerant plants and 22 trees to help beautify the area.

Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Company is expected to open its new Mission Viejo location in mid-September.

The City has been finalizing inspections of the 5,935-square-foot restaurant in the Gateway Center at 24042 Alicia Parkway. The building was revamped to include a new tower element, landscaping and outdoor dining area.

The chain restaurant is known for its Italian food, sports-themed atmosphere and micro-brewed beer.

In addition to Oggi’s, here’s a sampling of other restaurant news in town:

The public is invited to a free screening of the 2016 highly acclaimed feature film “Sully” on Sunday, September 10 at Mission Viejo City Hall.

Directed by Clint Eastwood with Tom Hanks in the lead role, the film relates the true story of pilot Chesley Sullenberger who glided his disabled plane onto the frigid waters of the Hudson River, saving the lives of all 155 aboard.

The City of Mission Viejo on September 11 will host a simple flag-holding and candlelight gathering to honor the men, women and children who lost their lives and the heroes who responded to the catastrophic events of 9/11.

The gathering is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the intersection of La Paz Road and Marguerite Parkway.
