Yachty by Nature at Concert on the Green

Enjoy an evening filled with music, food and fun from 4 to 8 pm Friday, July 19 on the Village Green at 24932 Veterans Way. Yachty by Nature, a fun six-piece band playing the finest groovy soft-yacht rock tunes from the late 70s and early 80s, will keep you dancing all night. VIP table seating for 10 people is also available for purchase online at cityofmissionviejo.org/register.

The concert will feature free bounce houses for kids along with gourmet food trucks and beer and wine for purchase. Concertgoers can bring low-back chairs and blankets to enjoy the show but should leave their pets at home.

All Summer is a Stage with these theater Camps

Lights, camera, action!  These summer theater camps explore the world of music and theater.   

Little Singers Camp
For ages 3-6, this camp will build a solid foundation in rhythm, vocal performance and musicianship while having fun. Camp takes place the week of July 29. Cost is $155.

Diva Singers Camp
For ages 7-11, the camp teaches campers to sing, dance and perform like their favorite pop stars. This encouraging environment is for singers of all levels and backgrounds. Camp takes place the week of July 29. Cost is $155.


Camp Broadway
Act, sing and dance in this fun musical theater class. Build valuable performance skills while working together to perform a final showcase on the last day of camp.  A performance of Beauty and the Beast for ages 3-6 takes place from 9 am to noon the week of July 8. A performance of Seussical the Musical for ages 7-11 takes place from 1 to 4 pm the week of August 1. Cost is $230.

Junior Lifeguards return to Sierra Recreation Center in July

Registration is available for the City of Mission Viejo’s Junior Lifeguard Course. Join the Junior Lifeguard team at the Sierra Recreation Center Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3:30 pm the week of July 15. Cost is $110.

In this five-day non-certification course taught by a certified lifeguard instructor, participants ages 11 to 14 will build a foundation of knowledge and skills for future lifeguard employment. The course focuses on water safety, drowning prevention, and skills for helping others in the water. Participants will be split into two levels based on experience. On the final day, graduation takes place from 3:30 to 5 pm. A certified lifeguard and an instructor will oversee the course and provide leadership and instruction. The Sierra Recreation Center is located at 26887 Recodo Lane.
 

 

Upcoming Senior Excursions

Take an adventure and meet new friends on an upcoming senior excursion.

First, join us on a visit to the Hilbert Museum at the Orange Circle via Metrolink on Saturday, July 6 from 9 am to 4 pm. We will meet at the Irvine Metrolink station at 9 am, and staff will lead you to the Hilbert Museum where a docent will guide us through more than 5,000 pieces of art including oils, watercolors and drawings of urban and industrial scenes, coastal views, and landscapes of everyday life in California. Cost is $15.  

Then on August 17, visit the Lyon Air Museum from 9:30 am to 1 pm. The museum is collocated with Martin Aviation, an award-winning jet, turboprop and piston-powered aircraft repair facility established in 1923 by famed aviation pioneer Eddie Martin. The Lyon Air Museum exhibit is comprised of authentic aircraft, rare vehicles and related memorabilia with emphasis on the defining event of the 20th century – World War II.  Cost is $40.

Finally, say goodbye to summer with a Whale Watching Cruise in Newport Beach on September 12. See blue whales and different dolphin species. Year-round, there is also the chance to see fin and minke whales. Dine on your own at a restaurant near the dock after the cruise. Cost is $80.

Summer Skill Bracket Pickleball Ladder Social

Join us at the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center for a 16 to 48 player, no set partner, skill-level ladder social on Saturday, July 13. 

After each round, players will switch partners and change courts based on match results. Prizes will be awarded to the top court winner at the end of the social. The cost is $15 for members, and $25 for non-members.  Under 3.0 and 4.0 players will play from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.  Players 3.0 will play from 4 to 6 pm, and 3.5 players will play from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

Live Music on The Deck

Join us for live music on The Deck at the Montanoso Recreation Center on Sunday, July 21 from 1 to 4 pm with Tom Bagley. Sit back and listen to a wide variety of classic rock, pop, oldies and more.

Recreation Center members are free. Friends and guests may also attend by purchasing a day guest pass. Adult (14 and older) guest passes are $8, and child (3 months to 13 years) guest passes are $4 and can be purchased at the front desk.

Register now for Paddle for the Battle Pickleball Tournament

On Saturday, August 24, the City of Mission Viejo is partnering with the American Cancer Society to host the daylong doubles round-robin pickleball tournament for a great cause. While enjoying an afternoon and evening of pickleball, you will help fund roundtrip rides for patients to treatment appointments, provide services to families with loved ones battling cancer and fund research to find a cure. 

One hundred percent of your $100 team entrance fee is a direct donation to the American Cancer Society through the nonprofit’s Relay For Life fundraising efforts. Each of the six divisions offered will have space to accommodate up to 16 teams, with a three-game guarantee. Medals will be provided to the first, second, and third-place finishers.

The Paddle for the Battle pickleball fundraising tournament will be held from 2 to 10 pm at the Felipe Tennis and Recreation Center.

Mission Viejo Kids Factory

Do your kids enjoy crafts, games, sports, themed events, and simply having fun?  Then register today for Kids Factory, which returns for the 2024/25 school year August 19 through June 5.   

Kids Factory is $860 for the entire school year and is offered at every Saddleback Valley Unified School District and Capistrano Valley Unified School District elementary school in Mission Viejo. Full and partial scholarships are available.

A popular drop-in recreation program sponsored by the City of Mission Viejo, Kids Factory caters to elementary school children in grades K-6 operating onsite for two hours after school. Homework time is provided each day.

There is also still time to register for Summer Kids Factory. Just $75 per week, the program is offered during the morning and afternoon at a variety of Mission Viejo locations.
