The Community Services Commission and staff welcome information on pertinent concerns, but comments at the meeting should be brief and specific to enable the Commission to take appropriate action.
Community of Character Committee & Teen Sub-Committee
The purpose of the "Community of Character" Award is to provide citizens with an opportunity to recognize people in the community who contribute to the Character of Our Community. Our objective is to acknowledge and promote actions encouraging good character in the Community of Mission Viejo. Cultural Arts Committee
The Cultural Arts Committee was established by the City Council in 1992 to promote and foster knowledge, enjoyment and appreciation of the performing, literary and visual arts through community interaction with the arts, in order to strengthen the quality of life in Mission Viejo. Drug Abuse Prevention Coalition
The Drug Prevention Coalition, supported by City Council, is designed for members of the public who are committed to taking action to prevent the spread of drug addiction and dependency in Mission Viejo. The Coalition meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center. Heritage Committee
The City of Mission Viejo Heritage Committee was formed in the fall of 1992. It is composed of local residents who have volunteered to assist the Mission Viejo Community Services Commission in the following functions: Research and preserve the history and heritage of Mission Viejo. Research historical sites and make recommendations for monuments and/or markers. Plan programs and activities to relate historical information to the public. Manage the historical research room at the Mission Viejo Library. Serve as docents for tours of the Heritage House exhibits. Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee
On March 20, 2006, the City of Mission Viejo City Council formally adopted the Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division stationed out of Camp Pendleton, to show their support for the Marines and their families. Soon after, a committee was formed comprised of representatives from the community, the City, and the adopted Battalion, and aptly named the Mission Viejo Marines and Sailors Adoption Committee.
Senior Citizen Activities Committee
The purpose of the Senior Citizen Activities Committee is to provide information and recommendations to the Community Services Commission relating to: Services as they affect the welfare of senior citizens within Mission Viejo. The promotion of senior citizen services within Mission Viejo. Input received from the community regarding senior citizen programs, needs, or services. Facility needs at the Norman P. Murray Senior Center and other facilities other than the Norman P. Murray Senior Center. Facility needs of senior citizens as they relate to Parks and Recreation Centers.
