Mission Viejo

The City of Mission Viejo is now accepting applications for the Community Services Funding Program.  Funds are available for non-profit organizations serving Mission Viejo residents, with a focus on agencies providing human services. The application deadline is Friday, August 25, 2017.

This summer, Capistrano Unified School District Food and Nutrition Services is offering free, healthy lunch to children and teens, 18 years and younger.  Lunches are served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 12 to August 11 at Viejo Elementary School, 26782 Via Grande.

Local youngsters can enjoy a variety of free summer entertainment at Kaleidoscope, when the center’s annual Kaleido-Kids events return for seven weeks, beginning Tuesday, June 20.

If you would like to serve those who are sick and less fortunate, Mission Hospital is looking for dedicated individuals to volunteer at both the Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach locations.

Research has proven that volunteering provides a variety of benefits including personal satisfaction and fulfillment, physical and emotional wellbeing, and connections to new friends.

The clock is ticking to the 2017 Symphony in the Cities with Pacific Symphony Orchestra from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 22.  Featuring a “Superhero” theme, this super event is an annual favorite at the Oso Viejo Community Park on the Village Green and neighboring Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

The Annual Mission Viejo Chamber of Commerce Breakfast is set for 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 15 at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club (26772 Avery Parkway). Mission Viejo High School Football Coach Bob Johnson will be the keynote speaker and the program includes Presentation of the Colors by the United States Army Recruiting Center and an Invocation by Senior Pastor Mike Maiolo of Mission Viejo Christian Church.

Guitar guru and composer Adam Rafferty will take the Mission Viejo stage for the next Lord of the Strings concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 24.

Rafferty is well known as a jazz and funky fingerstyle guitarist; perhaps you’ve heard his acclaimed solo guitar album of Michael Jackson songs, “I Remember Michael.” Very cool, indeed.

Anthony Adly is in line for the highest ranking in the scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America after completing a planting project that beautified the area.

For his Eagle Scout project, Anthony of Boy Scout Troop #918 spent last Saturday with 30 volunteers planting more than 800 drought-resistant plants and five 15-gallon Native California pepper trees along the Oso Creek Trail near the Village Green walkway.

Learn to Play Bocce Ball
If you’ve always wanted to learn to play bocce, now’s your chance. Enjoy an easygoing pace playing on the City’s beautiful bocce courts from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 7.  All equipment is provided.

What to Expect at Your Annual Medicare Wellness Visit
