Library Internet PC Use Guidelines

Public use of Internet PCs includes the computers in the Technology Center as well as a wireless Internet service accessible for laptop users inside the library. The Library does not provide technical support for laptop users accessing wireless services.

Library users agree to follow these guidelines:

  • A current Mission Viejo Library card is required in order to use the public Internet computers, and your library account must be in good standing. You must have your card with you at the time you sign on to an Internet computer.
  • Patrons under the age of 18 must have parental permission to use the Internet. Parents are required to state whether their child has permission to access the Internet and other computer resources at the time their child applies for a library card. Children's computers may be used by youth ages 6 - 12, and Teen computers by youth ages 13 - 17. Technology Center computers may be used by patrons 18 years of age and up.
  • All computers, including wireless access, are subject to Internet filtering; gambling and adult sites are blocked. A list of blocked web sites is updated on a regular basis. However, there is no guarantee that inappropriate sites will not be accessible. Users may not display text or graphics that may be construed as obscene, pornographic, or offensive to other patrons or staff. Anyone found accessing such materials will be asked to leave the Library immediately and Internet privileges will be suspended for three months. Parents of users under 18 years of age will be notified.
  • Inappropriate or illegal use of Library computers services, including wireless access, is prohibited and can result in the loss of library privileges. Copyright infringement, harassment using the computers, accessing or creating materials that may be deemed obscene, tampering with or damaging computer software and hardware, or the use of the public computers for any other purpose which could expose the City of Mission Viejo to liability or cause an adverse public perception is prohibited.
  • Do not use the Internet to access chat rooms or instant messaging. Users found accessing instant messaging, chat rooms or interactive games involving chat will be asked to leave and Internet privileges will be suspended for one month.
  • The automated system will time out automatically. Save your work often to a disk or USB device, as computers will time out after the warning.
  • Do not leave the computer unattended during your session.
  • Mission Viejo Library is not responsible for damage to user disks or any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from use of the Library computers.
