The Mission Viejo Library offers a wide range of materials, programs and services for our youngest patrons. From early literacy storytimes to family programs, there’s something for every young person, along with their parents and caregivers. Friendly, expert staff are on site to welcome children and families and help you with reading resources, homework research, fun family activities and more.
Early Childhood Programs
We invite families with young children to join us for storytime on the lawn in The Kershaw Garden, nestled between City Hall and the Library. These outdoor programs offer stories, songs, and rhymes to encourage toddlers and preschoolers to develop essential learning and literacy skills. Bring your beach chairs and blankets and enjoy songs, rhymes, and books that help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading.
Staying in? We offer a virtual pajama storytime on Tuesdays at 6 pm via Facebook Live. Follow us on Facebook to catch these storytimes live or watch the replay.
Programs for Elementary School Children
PAW Readathon - Readers 6 to 12 years old are invited to join us at our monthly PAW Readathon to read to Roxy, a trained therapy dog. Each reader picks out a short book or chapter to read aloud; many enjoy sitting with Roxy and petting her while reading. Held in an outdoor small group setting, young readers benefit from increased time reading aloud, increased reading confidence and Roxy’s friendly presence. Attendance is limited, so please sign up early. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
Homework Help - Students in grades 2 through 6 can work with volunteer tutors in the Mission Viejo Library Friends Storytime Room every Wednesday during the school year, from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. Students are advised to bring specific assignments to work on. For information and to register, email email@example.com.
